Frequently Asked Ordination Questions:

Where will Fr. Aaron be assigned as a new priest?

  • At the moment, Bishop Kinney is still reviewing with the Diocesan Clergy Personnel Board as to which priests will be assigned where for the upcoming year (beginning July 1st, 2007). As soon as the list is publicized, then Aaron's assignment will also be posted here.

We would like to give a gift. What does a newly ordained priest need?

  • Cash & gift certificates, are often the easiest gifts, since they can be used by Aaron according to his needs.
  • If you are looking for something more concrete, Aaron has a wish list on Amazon.com My Amazon.com Wish List
  • Aaron's hobbies and tastes include: music, reading, cooking, fishing, and exercizing.
  • Most of the normal household essentials are provided for a priest when he moves in to a parish.
  • Liturgical vestments, prayer books, and other ministry tools are also nice gifts, though make sure to contact Aaron's parents to see what has already been purchased by others.
  • Aaron would eventually like to invest in a newer car, computer, and other day-to-day business items, so donations toward these are always welcome.

Will things be different now that Aaron is a priest?

  • Both yes & no.
  • Certainly, the need for priests in the church will keep Aaron busy, so it may not be as easy to get ahold of him or meet up with him as it was in the past (even though he has been overseas the past four years). It may also mean that, because of his responsibilities as a shepherd of a flock, he will not be as available to be present at family functions, weddings and other great gatherings of family and friends.
  • Also, because Aaron will be a public figure, much like that of any civic leader, what he participates in and how he portrays himself will always be under the critical eyes of both the faithful and the general public. This may mean that difficult decisions might have to be made about whether or not he can participate in some of the activities he once did, not because those activities are good or bad in themselves, but because of the image they may portray or message they may send to those watching. - This is obviously a sensitive area, and one that will be judged on a case-to-case basis, depending on many circumstances.
  • In another sense, however, being a celibate priest will allow Aaron the freedom to visit all sorts of people and participate in the life of the various communities he belongs to. And, like Jesus, he will likely seek out to be with all people where they are at, knowing that at all times he is a representative of both Christ and the Catholic Church, an instrument of God's grace to all he encounters.
