Pictures: Travel

The Lord has blessed me with ample opportunities to travel about the world. From seminary planned trips to personal pilgrimages and spontaneous day trips, there is a lot of world to see. Most of my travels have been in Italy and the US, but here you will also see some of the other places I have visited during my four years in Rome.

Italy

This is a loaded section, full of trips to all sorts of locations. Here is a list of what you will see: Assisi, Casamari, Greccio, Loreto, Mugnano, Naples, Padua, Sardinia, Tivoli, & Venice. Much to my chagrin, I have not toted my camera everywhere I have traveled, which, in hindsight has left a void in this section. In the future...

France

France has been a common place of travel for me, voyaging to most of the center of the country. Christmas of 2003, a classmate and I toured through the region of Burghundy. In the spring of 05, I went on retreat to Ars, the famous town of St. John Vianney. A couple of other times, too, I have visited Paris and the nearby towns.

Austria & So. Germany

In the spring of 06, four of us deacons-to-be traversed to Austria to visit one of our classmates from the Angelicum in Vienna. We went to Salzburg, visited Kenny's family town in Southern Germany, stopped by Pope Benedict's old family town of Marktl, and even did the infamous Sound of Music Tour. It was a great time.

England

Thrice, I have been to London, and never outside her city limits. It is a great city, home to a few American friends of mine, and a great weekend getaway, depite the prices. The theatre and shows are great, and it is nice to travel to a place where everyone knows what you are saying.

Holy Land

In the winter of 2005-06, I joined a group of seminarians with Fr. Brendan Lally, S.J., to pilgrimage and retreat in the Holy Land. Five days in Jerusalem with a side trip to Bethelehem, six days in Galilee with a side trip to Nazareth and Cana. It was, by far, the most influential pilgrimage of my life. To walk among the cities, fields, and seaside that Jesus walked. To stand at the foot of Calvary and touch the stone where the cross was placed. To pray in the tomb.

Turkey

The book of Revelation, the last one in the Bible, contains the names of seven cities in Asia-Minor (present day Turkey) to which John the Apostle/Evangelist wrote. During the Easter of 05, I visited those cities, and a few more, to see the places St. John was writing to, to capture the scenes where Christian life once bloomed, and to put to memory the message he had for the world.
