Pictures: Seminary LifeA majority of my photos are from life in seminary and travels during that time. Therefore, the categories listed below reflect the many events and activities that have occured during my four years in Rome while associated with the North American College (NAC) seminary. Angelicum We live at the North American College, near the Vatican, yet we go to school across town at two different universities. I happen to attend the English speaking Angelicum, aka the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. These are some pics of the life there. Beatification of Sr. Nemesia, the Vigil Party Every year there have been mulitple canonizations and beatifications of saints by the pope. Some of our classmates at the Angelicum celebrated the beatification of one of their fellow sisters from France, Bl. Sister Nemesia. They invited us to participate in the vigil party the day prior to the ceremony. It was pretty wild to see how involved everyone was. NAC Apostolate: UST Bernardi Campus, Rome The University of St. Thomas (MN) has a study abroad house for its Catholic Studies students to take classes at the Angelicum University and to experience the heart of the Catholic Church in Rome. It is also a place for the seminarians of NAC to spend time in ministry for the students. Every Wednesday a few of us travel to their house for prayer, Mass, conversation, and dinner, to help foster community for them, and to help them in whatever ways they might need. NAC Diaconate Ordination 2006 Every year in October, the fourth year men are ordained to the diaconate (if they have not already been ordained back home, like me:) at the Basilica of St. Peter in Vatican City. A visiting bishop or cardinal performs the rite, and the whole seminary community gets involved in the celebration, before, during and after. In 2006, it was my class' turn to be ordained. The event was spectacular, and they even invited me to chant the Gospel at the Mass, which also meant I had a great seat front and center. NAC 40th Anniversary of the Dogmatic Declaration of the Imacculate Conception The patroness of the United States of America is Our Lady the Imacculate Conception. She is also the patroness of our North American College in Rome. Therefore, when it was time for the 40th anniversary of the Dogma of the IC (December 8th 2005), the Vatican offered our seminary the chance to have our men serve at the Mass in St. Peter's Basilica with Pope Benedict. NAC Building Pics The Pontifical North American College from a few perspectives of my camera. It houses 150+ seminarians and staff from all over the US and Australia. Complete with all the amenities, it is an American oasis amidst the Italian metropolis of Rome. NAC Camping in Calabria Some of us guys love to go camping, so each year in the fall we have rented cars, grabbed our gear, and hit the road, heading south to the region of Calabria, Italy. The national forests and campgrounds there are wonderful, nestled deep in the woods or right along the coastline. Each experience has been unique, but always fun. NAC Trailer Park Corridor One of the quirks of living in a large institution is the naming of corridors. Each floor and wing of the building has a nickname for its residents based on whatever suits its character. Our corridor (second floor, facing the hospital next door) has been called Trailer Park for almost eight years. This is for two reasons: first, because of the diversity of personalities that tend to be opposites from each other, and second, because of the frequent turn-over of residents each year. I have been dubbed a lifer, having lived all four years in the same room, making me one of the few and the proud Trailer Parkers to have lasted so long. NAC Year I - IV Herein you shall find a hodgepodge of pics from all four years of my NAC seminary experience. From halloween parties to foosball games after lunch, a lot happens throughout the year to build the life of the community. After awhile, the place really does begin to feel like home. Retreats As part of our formation as priests, we must grow in our lives of prayer through personal times of mediation and devotion, as well as through retreats and days of recollection scattered about during the year. Here you will find pictures taken during our times of retreat at the following locations: Ars, France 04 - Assisi, Italy 03 - Casamari, Italy 06 - Loreto, Italy 05 - Rocca Di Papa, Italy 04
