Pictures: Family, Friends, & Visitors

These photos represent only a few of the people who have affected my life while in seminary. Of course, my family has been the greatest influence, and they were able to visit during the Christmas season of 2004. Friends and other visitors have dropped by the eternal city during my time there, too. But, alas, I was not able to get a picture with everyone who made it over the pond.

Kuhn Family:

During the Christmas season of 2005, my family came over to visit. My sister, DeAnna, happened to be studying abroad in Rome at the same time, so when our parents and brother, Matthew, flew over it made for a happy reunion. The Lord blessed us with ten days of relaxation and prayer together, visiting the sites of Rome and Assisi. It was a joyous time (and we even got to meet John Paul 2nd!).

Friends from Home:

While home for the summer months of 2005 & 2006, I was able to connect with some old friends, share in the celebrations of their lives, and to kick back a little, too. Some were married, others had their first child, it was great to see them all again.

Roman Friends:

Rome is a unique place. It is the center of the Christian world, a city where friends are made and come to meet. During my four years here I have made new friends, but more interesting is that several friends from home have come to spend time in study at the same university across town. I call them my Roman Friends because of this time that we have shared.

Ann Mossey:

Ann and I became good friends as she spent some of her graduate study program at the Angelicum where I go to school.  While working diligently on her Master's Thesis, she still found time to drop in each week at the Fiddler's Elbow, an Irish pub in Rome, to fiddle along with the best of them until the wee small hours of the morning.

Collette Pilon & Tracy Bienick:

These fine ladies happened to drop in for a few weeks during their January break from college to visit Collette's sister Ellie, (see below) who was living in Rome for the year, and to live a little of la bella vita.

Ellie Pilon, Jill Gubash & Melissa Stahl:

These girls are special, in that, they all have lived in Rome for an extended period of time, yet none of these pics are related to that. They are from a trip they made over the Easter break of 2004, just months before two of them would come back for a year of study and discernment.

Fr. Alex Zenthoefer

One of my best friend is Fr. Alex. He and I spent two years of college seminary together at the University of St. Thomas. Many stories can be told of those golden days of yore. This batch of pics, however, is from his deacon class trip to the eternal city, including a day in which we sought to find some relics from one of the convents in the area. It was an adventure to be sure.

Kinney Family:

Bishop John F. Kinney (St. Cloud, MN) and his family made a visit to Rome in 2004, just before Christmas. It was a memorable time filled with tours around the city, beautiful restaurants, and plenty of time to chat about life. The Bishop's neice, Taylor, and I became quick friends as I introduced her to the history and food of the city. Let's just say she had a liking for the gelato (ice cream).

Trinity Western University: (Naomi Borries & Co)

Just after Easter 2004 a group from TWU, Canada came to Rome for a two week program of humanitarian and ecumenical study.  Mysteriously, by the work of God, I happened to make contact with them before their arrival through one of the students that I had only known as a friend of a friend online.  It was truly one of the most enriching experiences of ecumenism and faith sharing that I had ever enjoyed with a larger group of college students, especially from a well established Evangelical Christian school such as theirs. All of our eyes were opened to the richness of faith that we share as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Other Visitors:

Sometimes I was only able to get a photo or two of those who visited, so they are combined in this grouping. It has to be said, though, that there were many others of whom I was not able to get a picture. All in hindsight.
