Pictures: Assorted

These are the pictures that fall outside of the normal categories of life as a seminarian, but they also represent the side of me that seeks to capture a moment of beauty or express creativity through the arts.

Fireworks:

These pics were taken from our rooftop at the North American College in Rome. Every now and again (usually as we are about to go to sleep) the Romans or the Vatican will celebrate a feast or memorial occasion of some importance, ending the evening with an explosion of lights and sound. On New Year's Eve fireworks shows can be scene all across the valley of Rome (which sits in the center of seven hills, one of which we live on), though, without a dropping ball in Times Square it is difficult to know when midnight comes around. So, the Italians just fire them off as soon as they are ready, which makes for a long rendition of "Auld Lang Syne".

Flowers:

A bit random and without much preparation, these are shots made on the scene, wherever that might be during the year. Most of them end up being from a retreat locale here and there. Nonetheless, by experimenting with the functions of my camera, I was able to try my hand at capturing a moment of beauty in nature.

Morality TV:

During my senior year of college at UST, a fellow seminarian (Mike Brummond, Green Bay, WI) and I went to work at the campus television studio creating our own show, called Morality TV. The concept was to have a late-nite comedy talk show, like Johnny Carson's Tonight Show or Late Nite with Conan O'Brien, but with a moral to the story. The result was 22 episodes spread out over the school year, much acclaim, and lot of laughs along the way. Themes included: alcohol, dealing with change, sex and abstinence, the dignity of women, forgiveness, and more. Guests came from the student body, faculty, maintenance staff, and other members of the U of St. Thomas community. All in all, it was a rewarding experience and tons-o-fun.
